Geocache Description:

The Cherokee Outlet was located in what is now the state of Oklahoma. It was a sixty-mile wide strip of land south of the Oklahoma-Kansas border between the 96th and 100th meridians. It was about 225 miles long and in 1891 contained 8,144,682.91 acres.

The Cherokee Strip was a two-mile strip of land running along the northern border of much of the Cherokee Outlet.  It was the result of a surveying error.

The term Cherokee Strip now is often used for the whole Cherokee Outlet.

The land had been the property of the Cherokee but as a result of them supporting the Confederacy during the Civil War, they were persuaded to cede more than 8 million acres to the US government for $8,595,736.12.

On September 16, 1893, more than 100,000 people lined the border for the largest land run in the United States to begin.

The cache is log only so bring a pen and don't forget to rehide it as you found it.  There is parking at the cache site.

Happy Caching!
