I. (Szent) László Árpád-házi király, 1074 március 14-én a mogyoródi csatában aratott győzelmével nyílt meg előtte az út a magyar trón felé. 1077-től 1095-ig, haláláig uralkodott, győzelme emlékére pedig bencés apátságot és kolostort alapított a csata helyszínén melynek helyén ma a Szent László tér található. 1192-ben III. Celesztin pápa szentté avatta. Azóta Szent László király a magyar katonák védőszentje.

(Saint) I Ladislas was a king from the Árpád dynasty. Winning the Battle of Mogyoród on 14th March 1074 lead his way towards the Hungarian throne. Reigned from 1077 until his death in 1095. He established a Benedictine monastery near the place of his victory in the Battle. Today Szent László Square is located at the place of the Monastery. He was canonized in 1192 by Pope Celestine III. Since then Saint Ladislas has been the patrol saint of Hungarian soldiers.
