La leggenda narra che lo spartano Falanto sbarcò sulle rive di Saturo e qui, dopo essere bagnato dalle lacrime della moglie Ethra, decise di fondare la sua città. L’oracolo di Delfi infatti aveva precedentemente preannunciato:“popolate la grassa terra degli Iapigi e siate la loro rovina. Quando vedrai piovere dal ciel sereno, conquisterai territorio e città”.
Per cominciare quest’avventura, lasciate la macchina al parcheggio gratuito non custodito indicato nel waypoint oppure nel parcheggio a pagamento che incontrerete più avanti, nelle vicinanze del lido. Il cache è collocato nell’area del parco archeologico a cui si può accedere facilmente ed in maniera gratuita. Per arrivarci è consigliabile partire dalla spiaggia di Saturo, dove potrete ammirare da vicino lo spettacolare mare pugliese. Al termine della spiaggia c’è una scala che porta sulla collina ed all’intera area archeologica, facilmente percorribile.
Consigliamo di visitare la zona all’ora del tramonto, per godersi la pace del luogo ed il meraviglioso paesaggio. Nel vostro percorso ammirerete le rovine di una torre costiera, fungente probabilmente da vedetta, ed i resti di una villa romana. Potrete inoltre osservare dall’alto le caratteristiche baie di Porto Pirrone una volta raggiunto il luogo del cache e camminare su strutture risalenti alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale.

To start this adventure, leave the car at the unguarded car park indicated on the waypoint or in the pay parking you will meet near the seaside. The cache is located in the area of the archaeological park that can be accessed easily and free. To get there, we recommend starting from the beach of Saturo, where you can admire the spectacular Apulian sea. At the end of the beach there is a staircase leading to the hill and to the whole archaeological area.
We recommend visiting the area at sunset time, to enjoy the peace of the place and the wonderful landscape. In your path you will admire a coastal tower, that probably was to look-out, and the ruins of a Roman villa. Once you reach the cache site, you will also be able to observe the characteristic bays of Porto Pirrone and walk on structures dating to the Second World War.
