This two-stage, family friendly puzzle will take you on a visit to the new Butterfly Garden at Crosswinds Marsh
Like most puzzle caches, you will NOT find the cache at the listed coordinates. Instead, you will find the new Crosswinds Marsh Butterfly Garden that was created with the assistance of students from GESU Catholic School and Renton Junior High. An initial survey of butterflies found that there were more than 70 different species of butterflies here at the marsh (List of Butterflies). Take a little time to sit and watch the butterflies and enjoy the garden.....and maybe while sitting there on the butterfly bench, you might want to take some time to count the holes on the WINGS of the butterflies. (You will need this later to determine the final cache location)
The Final stage location:
N 42° 05.652 + (total number of holes in the butterfly wings x 2), W 083° 26.531 + (total number of holes in the butterfly wings X 2)
Crosswinds Marsh is one of the largest man-made wetlands in the country. It was built to replace the wetlands that were paved over to expand Wayne County's Detroit Metro Airport (the McNamara terminal). Wayne County, together with Sumpter Township, purchased over 900 acres of farmland that believe it or not, was once wetland that had been converted into farm fields by draining the land...in a process that took over a year. They flooded former farm fields, planted new wetland plants and transplanted endangered species from metro Airport. The area is managed by the Wayne County Parks.
The Cache, a regular lock & lock, is hidden in the typical fashion not too far from the parking lot. Please use stealth when looking for it, hide it back in the same location and cover it well.
