in our disclaimer.
Coon Lake is a small lake just outside the border of the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Provincial Park. There is a free public boat launch with parking for up to 20 cars.
If you would like to go interior camping overnight, you can purchase a permit online from Ontario Parks and use Coon Lake as an access point to lakes within the park. Otherwise you can enjoy a short canoe/kayak geocaching adventure on the edge of the park for a few hours without a permit. There are private cottages within binocular view, so be stealthy.
Coon Lake is a small lake where you may not encounter too much wind. It becomes a swamp at the west end. Interior campers use a narrow paddling-path through the lilly pads to go all the way to the west end of the lake where there is a tiny waterfall, at the portage path. If you can make it through that 'path' in the Sea of Lillies, there is a nice spot for a picnic/campfire outside bug season (i.e. early spring, late summer, fall). I have added the firepit / portage as a Waypoint/Reference Point location. This is simply a Reference Point because geocaches are not permitted inside an Ontario provincial park's borders. Please do not place a geocache here, as tempting as it may be. :)
