Geocache Description:

Like most small towns and hamlets of western Canada, Duffield came to be as the railway progressed westward. After many years of isolation the railway provided a direct line of transportation to Stony Plain and Edmonton. Farmers were able to easily ship their livestock, grain and cream after a short cattle drive or wagon ride, rather than making the 2 day trip to Stony Plain.

In 1946 the first Duffield Community Hall was built. It was built before electricity and furnaces, so a large old kitchen range was used to heat the building. In November of 1950 the community hall caught fire. Unfortunately there wasn’t much the towns people could do, so the building burnt to the ground. In 1951, the Duffield Community Hall Association gathered to build a new hall. The opening dance was held on December 14, 1951.
