Huayhuash - Glacial valleys
Task
To log the cache, send me the answers to the following question.
1. Name a peak, which shows a typical horn shape.
2. You will see several lakes from your view point. In What kind of valley lies the closest to you?
3. Can you see hanging valleys? If yes, where (degree true north from your point of view and nearby peak). If no, why do you think there are none?
Picture is necessary and should show that you have been at the earthcache with at least your geocaching name or yourself in the picture.
Glacial valleys and forms
Glaciers, due to their dimensions and movement, shape their surrounding landscape. Various characteristic forms are formed. Above the glacier, this is typically:
- Horn: Is a summit, which has a pyramid shape, which is produced by ablation of material on all sides through glaciers. A well-known example is the Matterhorn.
- Arête: Are (mountain-) ridges, which are often caused by ablation of glaciers on both flanks.
The glacier itself, like a river, forms a valley. This usually has a U-shape, while a river has a V-shape. The valley forms of the glacier are as follows:
- Glacial valley: Is the main valley, which forms a trough, therefore one speaks at the bottom of the trough sole and the flank of the trough wall.
- Hanging valley: Originated by a tributary to the main glacier, and mostly intersecting the trough of the trough.
- Kar: describes the typical form of the forming zone. This is usually like a pot in which the ice / snow collects and flows from there into the actual valley.
The valley forms are also well known long after melting glaciers. Thus conclusions can be drawn from the shape of the valleys and mountains to the once-glaciation.

Valle glaciares
Los glaciares, debido a sus dimensiones y movimiento, modelan el paisaje circundante. Se forman diversas formas características. Por encima del glaciar, esto es típicamente:
