Geocache Description:

When visiting Poppleton you really should see the Yorkshire Ouse. It flows past the village relatively serenely but eventually turns into the mighty Humber. This is the waterway through York that made this world-famous city what it is today.

When I started to lay my trail of caches round the village, I put a great one in place not too far away from this one, but it only survived three months before being destroyed....and you couldn't get at it today anyway because of the huge swathe of Himalyan Balsam you see before you when you arrive at GZ. So, here is my alternative offering. Nowhere near as exciting but a cache is a cache after all! If you bring children and dogs then please do keep an eye on them. The river may look tame and placid but I've swum in it (not recently!) and there are some fairly fierce currents not too far out. It's a busy route for joggles and doggles too so be aware of them suddenly springing out of the vegetation....and there's a hell of a lot of that! Bring your own pen and perhaps gloves for the nettles currently. In the winter this part of the river is prone to flooding and adjacent land is used for flood retention to protect the heart of the city further downstream. When this happens, you won't get anywhere near! Enjoy!
