Geocache Description:

I love learning about different species in our animal kingdom! So this was a ton of fun for me to make. As well, I also love literary devices…. Especially alliteration! Let’s combine the two! Yay!

----------------------------------

An aardvark is an African animal a part of the Afroinsectiphilia clade. Aardvarks are also colloquially known as African Ant bears. Aardvarks are nocturnal, appearing after dark to acquire their food, almost always ants, which it will dig out of their hills using its sharp claws and powerful legs. The closest living relatives of the aardvark are the elephant shrews, tenrecs and golden moles, although not the South American anteater as commonly assumed.

Bearded Dragons are one of the best reptiles in my books (I have two!). Best known for their black beards that flare when they are bothered. A branch of the pogona breed of reptile, Bearded dragons originate from central Australia. They spend most of their time in bushes and trees, and enjoy basking on branches and rocks in the blistering sun. When the climate is too hot, they will often burrow underground. But don’t be put off by their bitter behaviour. They really are blithe and becoming, and sure to be your best buddy in no time!

Chinchillas are cute critters commonly kept as companions. A creature from the crepuscular rodent species and the family Chinchillidae, can be classified into two sub-species the Chinchilla brevicaudata and Chinchilla lanigera. The former species is currently facing extinction; the latter, though rare, can be found in the wild. They originate from coastal regions of Chile, live in colonies called herds, and reside in burrows and crevices of rocks.

The Dingo is a dashing species of dog found in Australia. The dingo's habitat ranges from deserts to grasslands. Dingoes will normally make their dens in deserted rabbit holes and hollow logs, and despite being a deft hunter, the dingo is vulnerable to extinction. Arguably due to genetic dilution of breeding with domestic dogs. Dingo’s diet is a wide range of wild and domesticated animals. As well, in the summer Dingos will drink up to 1 litre of water a day.

Echidnas are one of four extant species of egg-laying mammals.Echidnas live exclusively in Australia and New guinea, and evidently evolved millions of years ago from the similarly egg-laying descendant, the platypus. They have elongated snouts that execute as both a mouth and nose. Interestingly, they are equipped with 2,000 electroreceptors on the end of their snout that is used for electrolocation and electrocommunication.

A Fisher is a furry animal famous for being ferocious. A member of the weasel family, it’s a forest-dwelling creature also nicknamed the fisher cat although it is not a feline. Fishers feed off a wide variety of animals with very few predators of its own. It spends most of its time on the forest floor and prefers to forage around fallen trees. Fishers fur changes with the season and gender, and both sexes each have five toes. They can be found in forests all over Canada so geocachers beware!
