This path follows the line of the former Great Central Railway, which was once one of the most important main lines in Britain. The line closed in 1969, but in the 1980s the section to the south of the city centre was tarmacked and turned into a cycle and footpath. It has formed part of National Route 6, a cycle path linking Watford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Market Harborough, Leicester, Derby, Nottingham, Worksop, Sheffield, Manchester, Blackburn, Preston, Lancaster, Kendal and Windermere,
From here you can walk all the way into the city.
Pen required and it can get busy so beware of muggles.
