The Montanoso Recreation Center was built by the Mission Viejo Company as a way to attract residents to Mission Viejo. Over the years the facility has changed its programming and amenities to now include workout equipment, fitness classes, pool and spa, waterpark, basketball court, tennis courts and family events. Inexpensive memberships are available which also includes the use of the Sierra Recreation Center or a person can pay a day-use fee.
Adjacent to the Montanoso Recreation Center is the Oso Creek and a Bio-Swale. In order to help prevent pollutants from reaching Oso Creek and the Pacific Ocean, this bio-swale was constructed to trap typical parking lot pollutants, promote infiltration, and reduce the velocity of storm water flows prior to discharge to Oso Creek. Check out the sign next to the large green electrical box in the parking lot to learn more about this bio-swale.
July is national Parks & Recreation Month and in preparation for an exciting summer, the Mission Viejo Recreation and Community Services Department has hidden geocaches around town to encourage people to explore parks and open spaces. Visit the City’s website to learn about other hidden geocaches and to celebrate Parks Make Life Better! http://cityofmissionviejo.org/departments/recreation/parks-city-sites/geocaching
