Geocache Description:

PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN DRIVEWAYS. PLEASE USE THE BOULEVARD OR SIDE OF THE ROAD ONLY This is now a virtual cache. Still a great story and you learn a little something. Located in the town of Highgate. Highgate is home to the Mary webb centre and was once home to one of the most complete mastadon fossils found in North America.

Please enjoy our little town!

In 2005 a lady at a house close to this location was cleaning out her attic when she came across a "rock". She brought this "rock" to her friend and colleague at the University of Waterloo who later identified it as being a mastodon tooth and tusk. I found this story to be such a fascinating one as it turned out that my best friend now lives in that house. As someone who loves fossils and all things prehistoric to be so close to such history is beyond the coolest thing to happen. Please follow the link and check out the pictures and story on the University of Waterloo's Earth Sciences website. The tooth and tusk are still currently located at the Universities museum.
