Geocache Description:

I think you find this park is more than just beareable. It's another beautiful Sydney park on the sunny harbour.

Most of the park is part of the original 1831 grant of the Elizabeth Bay Estate to Colonial Secretary Alexander Macleay. The park is named after John Beare, alderman (like mayor) from 1881 to 1899.

Over history land has been added to create what the park now is today. Significantly was the addition of the tennis courts and part of the gardens of 'Boomerang' [estate]. This now makes up the Kings Cross Rotary Park ( the Western Section of the park, dissected by the parking area). You can see the old Boomerang Estate from the park, and can even walk through abandoned arches, doorways and doors that remain from the estate.

There is also a group of tall Washington palms near the parking ares, and the City's Register of Significant Trees indicates these trees are probably remnants from the grounds of Elizabeth Bay House, and specifically the grounds of William John Macleay’s Linnaean Society Hall built here in 1885.

The park also boasts a highly ornamental ancient drinking fountain. The canopy fountain is one of a group of eight highly ornamental drinking fountains brought from Glasgow in 1870. Its inscriptions include a biblical text from John 4: 13-14: “Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.”

The park is thoroughly enjoyed by locals on a Sunny weekend afternoon to picnic, read or just relax and soak up the setting. The park also boasts magnificent harbour views, as well as 4.7 Stars from 73 Google Reviews - of a park! So make an outing of this cache, do what everyone else will be doing, have your lunch, have a picnic, enjoy the setting. There are also toilets and water facilities.

This park also plays an important part today. You may notice while finding the cache, but due to the high density apartment living the local area is characterized by, not many people have access to green spaces, and so people flock to the park on a beautiful day.

The cache is a small tupperware box. Please firmly wedge the cache back in position and cover with natural camo that is abundant in the area.

The park can have hoards of muggles on a good day, so please, take your time when finding the cache - sit down, look around, casually retrieve...

If you haven't found my other 2 caches up the road, the walk is not far and they take you to 2 more cool parks/green spaces.
