The cache is located in Chambers Creek Canyon. There are some short pedestrian trails of less than 1 mile in the canyon of a moderate level. However, this cache will require some bushwhacking and/or wading in the creek. Consequently, the terrain rating is reflective of off-trail travel. Fun for all !!! Enjoy the scenery !!!
There is series of short trails located within the Chambers Creek Canyon. All trails are primitive in nature and allow people to experience a true urban forest setting. Watch for deer and coyotes which call the canyon home. Future plans call for an extension of this nature trail system, providing improved trailheads and linked trail segments. I have attached the link for the future plan in the "Related Web Page."
The canyon can be accessed from the south of Chambers Creek in Lakewood from these access points.
Access Points: South of Chambers Creek Bridge, or the end of Phillips Road
From University Place the canyon can be accessed from Kobayashi Park.
Kobayashi Park– – 6420 Chambers Creek Road W
Kobayashi Park includes 5.5 acre of natural beauty on the confluence of Leach and Chambers Creeks. This unique site accesses the Chambers Creek Corridor from University Place. The site includes wetlands as well as large evergreen trees and views of both creeks. Picnic table is available
Of course there are some local routes into the canyon. Some of those are shown on the future planned trailheads map on the "Related Web Page." Some of these are well established trails, while some are just infrequent footpaths established by locals.
As to the cache, there is no need to destroy any of the vegetation. This is wonderful area to visit and enjoy. The stream runs year round into Chambers Bay, feed by Lake Steilacoom. You can see spawning salmon in the fall. Also, fisherman can be seen in the stream on the upper stretch. Sunbathers and waders can be seen on the lower stretch just before the dam.
Enjoy your visit to the canyon and find the many caches that reside there.
