[ENG] Kalamaja cemetery was the oldest excisting cemetery in Tallinn. It stood there for at least 400 years, from the 15th century to 1964 when it was completely flattened and destroyed by the Soviet occupation authorities governing the country at that time. The grave stones were used as constrtion material. The reason for destruction was purely political. The Soviet regime wanted to wipe out the history before them. The former cemetery is now restored by the city of Tallinn as a public park. There are some fragment of original grave stones left on display at the eastern end of the park in a small bell tower.

Alkuperäisten hautakivien paloja on koottu nähtäville puiston itäpäätyyn pieneen kellotapuliin.
