We will mainly be carrying out a "Cache in Trash out" event. We can supply gloves but if you have your own please bring them. Rubbish bags and litter pickers will be provided. We may be able to offer some other activities on the day, including improving the hay meadows and the sites of special scientific interest that we have on the reserve. Tools for these activities will be provided.
The Nature Reserve is a green gem in an otherwise urban landscape. It has a wide range of habitats, Woodlands, Heathland, Meadows, Rockfaces Ponds, Streams and wet lands. It has 2 sites of special scientific interest and sites of regional importance for it's geology and industrial history. A wide variety of wildlife from butterflies to badgers. A sculpture trail. Plants galore. This CITO event will help to make it better. Paths on the reserve are well maintained most are suitable for buggies or wheelchairs. The Wardens are very friendly and welcome your help. You don't have to come all afternoon just stay as long as you can.
There are 6 traditional geocaches and 2 Earthcaches in the reserve. We are hoping to add some new ones in time for the CITO event.
There are no food and drink or toilet facilities on the reserve but The Saltwells Inn next to the car park is open all day.
If you can come please post a note on the event page.
Thanks Les D
