Geocache Description:

10 September 9:30 am

Some of the Grovetown area used to be known as Big Bush, a 40 hectare stand of Kahikatea forest. It's not that the area of bush was that large, but it certainly was in comparison to all the swamp land that lay in this area prior to the Pakeha arrival and the conversion of that land to agriculture. Grovetown Lagoon is now a reserve, and we are working to restore some of that Big Bush. Please come along and lend a hand!

Meet at the far end of Steam Wharf Road. There is a short walk to the area we will be working in so please be on time. If you are late there will be no one at the car park and you might miss out! No idea what we will be doing yet, but if you have them, please bring a spade, gardening gloves, pruning tools. Gumboots are recommended. We may be tree planting, track clearing, weeding, pruning, or any other jobs that pop up. You are welcome to stay just the hour, but if you stay longer, there may be a free sausage at the end - around 11:30-12:00.
