Just a short distance from shore, this cache is inaccessible from land. Fritse Park to the south is the closest place to put in for a paddle. Sat. photos show a dock here but it is no longer here. UPDATE: January 2018. Park is now open after the removal of the old barn and the clean up throughout this special piece of earth.
The Chironomidae (informally known as chironomids, nonbiting midges, or lake flies) comprise a family of nematoceran flies with a global distribution. They are closely related to the Ceratopogonidae, Simuliidae, and Thaumaleidae. Many species superficially resemble mosquitoes, but they lack the wing scales and elongated mouthparts of the Culicidae. All this is fancy talk for a bug that spends its short life being annoying, covering every surface near the water, leaving greasy splotches after their lives are extinguished. Two hatches a year occur with the first often near Mother's Day. Enjoy the peaceful water here.
