Memory Lane - Challenger Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

OrienTheory: It's been a while since I wanted to do this, but I've decided to keep the city area where I live in friendly for new geocachers. In order to do so, my caches would have to be mostly traditional, as most new players would search for caches on the free mobile app.

Therefore, this space will be cleared up to help facilitate the process of attracting local players.

Geocache Description:

This Geocache brings you to the place where I spent more than 6 years playing badminton. The posted coordinates brings you to the front of the centre while the cache is located behind the sports complex. Public access is available from 7am until midnight when the sports complex closes and shuts it's gates. Alternatively, the cache is accesible from outside via the river, although the former is much much easier and is recommended.

My Story

From the tender age of 7, I begun my journey into playing badminton after learning that my father is always out to play badminton at night. Being a little kid who wants attention, I pleaded with my father to bring me along. After learning the basic strokes and simple matches, I knew I was hooked to the sport.

As the old court that I used to play from my childhood days had been renovated and the conditions of the new hall are not suitable for badminton play, my father made the decision to switch courts. So here we are: Challenger Sports Centre.

The sports complex provides 4 facilities: badminton courts, futsal courts, table tennis and snooker. Snooker is now no longer provided as nobody plays snooker here.

When I was 14, my father decided to let me come here and play with his friends. Note that I was smaller and weaker compared to many of his friends, so I was constantly being ‘bullied’. Fast forward 5 years later and now I am one of the strongest in the group. All thanks to the non-failing schedule of coming here every Wednesday night to practice, play and have fun.

Now that I’m leaving, my Wednesday nights will forever feel empty without my father’s accompaniment. Nevertheless, here’s to hoping badminton Ireland will be a new challenge for the Challenger!
