Geocache Description:

Charles Edward Anderson was born October 18, 1926, in North Saint Louis and grew up not too far from here near the old Homer G. Phillips Hospital. Charlie had a more or less normal childhood. Like most kids, he sang in the youth choir then got really interested in music while at Sumner High School and he even played a few local gigs! Charlie also had a knack of tangling with the law.

By the time Charlie was 21 he was released from the 'ole "Greybar Hotel", got married, started a family while working at many different jobs around St. Louis including working as a janitor, auto assembly worker, part-time photographer and at one point Charlie even trained as a hairdresser!

Although Charlie worked hard earning a living and raising his family, he never lost his passion for music and continued to dabble and play with the local bands to make a bit of extra cash. It wasn't long before Charlie's talent was evident. He even tried his hand at recording some tunes, you may have heard of some of them.

"Maybellene" in 1955 sold more than 1,000,000 copies and went to #1 on the charts.

"Roll Over Beethoven" in 1956 reached 26th.

"School Days", "Rock and Roll Music", "Sweet Little Sixteen", and "Johnny B. Goode" followed.  Then there were a couple of movies to round things out. Speaking of movies, Charlie's "Johnny B. Goode" was a huge influence in "Back to the Future" and perfectly represented the disruptive nature of his Blues influenced music. Stephen King started many chapters of his book "Christine" with fragments of Charlies tunes and if you listen closely to the car radio in the movie "Christine", it plays Charlies tunes too! More hits, more tours more trouble followed but the trouble didn't slow Charles down.

Chuck Berry

Charles "Chuck" Edward Anderson Berry continued to Rock and Roll through the '80's playing about 100 shows a year. From 1996 to 2014 Chuck still played one Wednesday a month at Blueberry Hill

Chuck Berry will forever be remembered as THE musician that gave Rock and Roll its sound. There was no one like Chuck Berry.

Statue

Chuck Berry even has a Statue and a star on the walk of fame.

We will visit Chucks' statue and possibly his star.

The Star
