Geocache Description:

To preserve the Buffalo River as a free-flowing river, Congress designated it as America's first National River in 1972. It is nestled in the Arkansas Ozark Mountains. Originating high in the Boston Mountains, the Buffalo drops steadily to its confluence with the White River 151 river miles to the east.

The National Park System protects the lower 134 miles of the Buffalo in three Districts, while the beginning 17 miles is protected by the Ozark National Forest.

The Ozarks highest river bluffs - up to 500 feet high - are sandstone, limestone, and dolomite. Centuries of erosion have sculpted multi-colored cliffs to accent the Buffalo River and its setting within the wild mountain beauty. The Park's caves, cliffs, sinkholes, waterfalls, springs, and often intriguing rock formations typify Arkansas Ozarks geology.

At this point you are about 400 feet above this beautiful river. You can drive up to this area, and a restaurant, camping and canoeing are located nearby for those so inclined.

To claim this Virtual Reward, read the nearby plaque and email me the middle name of the author of the "Little Corners of the Earth" saying. Thanks and enjoy.
