Geocache Description:

This virtual cache will bring you to the remains of the first USS Ticonderoga. This was the first of 5 US Navy ships to carry the name USS Ticonderoga. This USS Ticonderoga was originally built as a commercial steamboat at the Lake Champlain Steam-boat company in Vergennes, VT. It was purchased by the US Navy for $1,200 and converted to schooner rigging, then relaunched on 12 May 1814. The Ticonderoga fought in many battles on Lake Champlain and after the war she was laid up at White Hall. Ten years later it was decided Ticonderoga was not worth the cost of repair and on July 19, 1825 she was sold at public sale for salvage. In 1958 the remains were rediscovered and recovered as part of White Hall's bicentennial celebration. What you see here today is the remains as recovered.

To log this virtual you must email me the answer to the questions below. E-mail only. I DO NOT receive geocaching.com messages.

1. Near the stern on the starboard side is a small stone marker. What does this stone mark and what is the middle date on the marker?

2. Off the bow of the ship is a small log cabin. How many logs are under the window?

3. Holding the remains of the boat upright are a series of cradles. How many cradles are on the starboard side? Do not count the one support without a cradle on the starboard side and do not count the ones on the port side.

Please note that there will be no armchair logging, or "previous visit" logging allowed for this cache. You will have one week from the time that you post your find to email me the correct answers or your log will be deleted without notice. I will allow one person to send in the answers for a group of cachers, but please make sure you mention the other caching names in your email. Logs revealing any of the answers will be deleted without notice.
