Geocache Description:

Gum Slough is a wild, spring fed stream, most of it beautifully preserved in a natural state.

Logging this virtual will require a boat trip of over 10 miles round trip. Paddle craft highly recommended. The run may require multiple portages. It can seem very long, going upstream ;-) but well worth the effort.

LOGGING: photo of you, or just your thumbs ups, or other proxy (hat, sunglasses) with the midstream cypress at the listing coords.

There's a free county boat ramp on the Withlacoochee River not far south of the Gum Slough entry, see waypoint on cache page.

There are 6 second magnitude springs in the upper part of the run, and numerous other named and unnamed springs along it, most in the upper half; see background image. The land around the head springs area is privately owned, and there is no public land access to the main spring. The river and run can be busy with boat traffic. Airboats sometimes come well up the run. Noisy, but they do tend to carry saws and remove the portages.
