Geocache Description:

HMS Victory

HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is best known for her role as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. She additionally served as Keppel's flagship at Ushant, Howe's flagship at Cape Spartel and Jervis's flagship at Cape St Vincent.

In 1922, she was moved to her present location in Portsmouth and preserved as a museum ship. She has been the flagship of the First Sea Lord since October 2012 and is the world's oldest naval ship still in commission.


*** UPDATE 11/8/20 The Dockyard is due to reopen to the public on the 23rd August 2020 however due to CV19 restrictions you now have to pre book tickets and while this system is in place the Free Entry Tickets have been suspended. I've been told the situation will be reviewed once CV19 restrictions are lifted


To log this virtual you must the visit the coordinates listed within the ‘Portsmouth Historic Dockyard’. There is NO charge to enter this area but if you wish to board the Victory or visit any of the other attractions within the dockyard there is a fee. You will need to go through the ticket office where you must obtain a free ‘Site Entry Ticket’ giving you entry to the dockyard and also Boathouse four. The Dockyard is open between 10am and 5pm every day but you may wish to check before planning your visit.

The coordinates will take you to a field gun, to claim your find you must.

C. On the plinth of the field gun there are eight brass plaques, what is the exact time on the timepiece?
