Geocache Description:

Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve is best known for its wetlands and a section of undeveloped Lake Erie shoreline. The preserve is a popular spot for locals and tourists who want a scenic nature walk and especially for birders interested in migratory waterfowl and warblers. As in many natural locations in Erie County bald eagles can be seen here, particularly near the beach.

Because this is in a State Nature Preserve remember to follow all preserve regulations. All questions for this Virtual Cache can be answered by following those regulations.

To get credit for a find on this Virtual Cache answer the following questions. Answers can be sent to the cache owner by email through the owner's profile or the Message Center:

  1. At HISTORIC ROADWAY waypoint (also posted coordinates), what was this road one of the first of?
  2. At WETLAND waypoint, which ecosystems have mostly been destroyed or altered?
  3. At WETLAND FUNCTIONS waypoint, about what percentage of Ohio's wetlands has been destroyed?
  4. At BARRIER BEACH waypoint, name one of the 3 rare plants for which the beach provides habitat.

While a photo is not required, including photos in your log is strongly encouraged - let everybody see the great flora and fauna of this preserve!
