Geocache Description:

FOR THE LOVE OF GEOCACHING

One of the most enjoyable aspects of geocaching is that it takes geocachers to interesting places they might not otherwise have known about. This is one such place—the Robert Redden Footbridge.

This former Central of Georgia Railway swing bridge crosses the Oostanaula River in downtown Rome. Standing at the point where the Oostanaula and the Etowah come together to form the Coosa River, the bridge once rotated at its center to allow steamboats to pass. You can still see the massive gear mechanism near the top of the central supporting pier. No longer used by the railroad, it has been preserved by Rome and Floyd County and converted to a pedestrian bridge. Now called the Robert Redden Foot Bridge, it is part of an extensive network of trails in the community.

LOGGING REQUIREMENT: Take a photograph of yourself at the posted coordinates with the confluence of the rivers in the background and upload it with your online log. (your face is not required).

BONUS: While you are at the coordinates facing the confluence, look for a discoverable travel bug that was left by HappyCricket & KingDNF when they attended the Going Caching 2014 Mega-Event.

This virtual geocache has been placed with permission of the City of Rome and Georgia's Rome Office of Tourism which permits and encourages the love locks placed on the bridge fencing.
