Geocache Description:

Welcome intrepid adventurers, to Letchworth's Stone Bridge – a virtual cache designed to showcase one of the most unique locations in all of Letchworth State Park.

Here you'll discover the Stone Foot Bridge located along the Lower Falls Trail in Letchworth State Park. This bridge was constructed in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The 46-foot-long stone structure stands 35 feet above the Genesee River, and is the only pedestrian crossing of the Genesee in Letchworth State Park.

As a testament to the CCC's craftsmanship, in 1972, during Hurricane Agnes, the Genesee River rose and crashed over the bridge. However, the bridge was so well built that it withstood the battering and remained intact.

Standing on the bridge, hikers get a spectacular view of Letchworth's Lower Falls, the raging rapids of the Genesee River and the steep shale gorge walls.

To collect a find for this virtual cache, you must do all of the following:

  1. Hike down to the stone bridge (yes yes, we require you hike down to it)
  2. Take a picture as you're standing on the bridge of the falls, the gorge walls and/or you giving us a big ol’ thumbs up...bonus points awarded for cachers who share fun/funny pics!) Please include the picture in your cache log (or you may send it via email).
  3. As you stand in the middle of the bridge enjoying the views, email me the answer to the following question: What counties are you standing in at the same time?
  4. Disclaimer: NO pictures/logs will be accepted from before this cache was posted
