Geocache Description:

Here you are, in the heart of Baker's Field. Colonel Thomas Baker's home and hospitable 80 acres of alfalfa field for passers-through to rest their animals was located a stone's throw east of here. In 1883, the Scrivner water tower landmarked this spot. The city root was here, as the business district branched out to the north from where you stand along Chester avenue.

This has been where the civic center seed sprouted at the beginning of Bakersfield, and it's still growing strong today - when one is planning any political or newsworthy event, or a protest against/rally for, the concrete podium before this Liberty Bell replica is your place to plant your banner and put mouth to megaphone to be heard.

To log this cache, let your freedom ring by posting up a selfie of your geo-crew with the bell in the background.

And, Smile! - Bakersfield is the center of the universe, and here you are, at the center of Bakersfield.
