Soldiers' Grove is a small park on the Pennsylvania Capital Complex that honors the Commonwealth's military men and women. In the inner walkways the names of Pennsylvania's Medal of Honor recipients are inlaid. The Grove is across the street from the Veterans' Memorial Fountain which is another popular attraction for visitors to the Capital Complex. This virtual takes you for a short walk around the grove and ends at the fountain.
This cache is best done on Sunday when parking in Harrisburg is free. Harrisburg parking information is available online, which will be more up to date than what I can provide on this page.
Start the virtual at the posted coordinates. This will place you in a semicircle plaza, count the large flagpoles here. Then proceed to reference point 1 where you will find the stone marker shown in the picture above. Continue along this path to point 2 and count the similar markers you find along the way. Then cross the grove to point 3 and continue counting as you walk to point 4. From the fourth point continue across the street to the fountain to complete the virtual.
If you have time there are numerous other things to observe in the area, including a few earthcaches on the opposite side of the Capital building from the fountain. More info about the Capital can be found here, including how to take the tour, which is recommended.
TO LOG THIS CACHE: Answer the following questions in an email or message (not in your online log):
1. How many large flagpoles are around the semi-circle at the posted coordinates?
2. How many stone markers similar to the picture are along the two walkways from reference point 1 to 2 and from 3 to 4.
With your cache log please include a picture of the fountain with either you (faces not required) or your device.
To prevent armchair logging any log not accompanied by a picture and an email/message with the required information will get a polite reminder and if the information is not received after a week the log will be deleted.
