Geocache Description:

This virtual reward cache places you at 2066 Crist Drive, where in 1976, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak formed the company Apple Computer. The home became a historic Los Altos site in 2013.

It was in this garage that the two Steves built one hundred Apple I computers. Jobs sold his Volkswagen and Wozniak his expensive HP calculator in order to fund the effort. The computers consisted of a single board with 4K of RAM, and sold for $666.66. Users had to provide their own power supply, keyboard, TV display, and tape recorder for storage. Production stopped in September 1977, three months after they developed the Apple II.

There are only around 60 Apple I computers known to exist today. This is due in part to the destruction of the Apple I computers that were traded in for discounts on Apple IIs. When put up for auction, an Apple I tends to sell for 6 digits. If you want to see an Apple I, you can take a 7 mile drive north from the virtual cache to the Computer History Museum in Mountain View -- one of the (very) few museums to have one on display.

To log this cache: You will need to visit the location and take a picture of the house, which you can either send to me or post with your log. The house picture must include either 1) yourself (e.g., selfie), or 2) if you prefer privacy, a scrap of paper with your caching name written on it. Signs on the property state "All Pictures Must Be Taken From Street". Please be courteous to the neighbors who live here, and do not trespass on anyone’s property.
