Geocache Description:

The schooner JESSE DRUMMOND was wrecked during a storm on Lake Ontario. Her crew of 7 were rescued without loss of life by the life saving crew of Cobourg. The DRUMMOND with a cargo of 600 tons of soft coal left Oswego but was forced to seek shelter at Charlotte on account of the storm. She left Charlotte and ran for Cobourg. The vessel missed the harbour lights and stranded in the full sweep of the seas. The vessel was a total loss.

Cobourg is the location of the first Canadian Lifesaving station. The station was established November 7, 1882. Daniel Rooney was the coxswain, and had a crew of six men. His salary was $75 per annum, and he was also paid $1.50 for each drill, the drills taking place twice each month during the season of navigation. The crew were each paid $1.50 for each drill. This station was equipped with a self-righting and self-bailing boat of the Dobbins pattern, which is 25 feet long over all, and eight feet beam. It cost $575, and was made at Goderich, Ontario.

To log this cache email me the date the vessel sank and post a pic yourself with the anchor.
