The Huffman Prairie Flying Field is where Orville and Wilbur Wright spent several years learning how to have controlled flight after their successful "first flight" at Kitty Hawk, NC. To compensate for the lighter and more variable wind in Dayton, Ohio they developed a devise to shorten the distance for the plane to get air born. The posted coordinates will take you to this devise. To get to the cache enter WPAFB off Rt 444 at the golf course. To log this cache, send me the answers to the following questions: 1) What is this devise? and 2) Estimate the mass (weight on earth) of the cylinder. {show me the math you used to calculate it.} Use 145 lbs/cu ft as the density of the cylinder. You may have to park about 100 yards from the coordinates. There is a multi-stage cache in the area that you may enjoy doing if you have the time. Also visit the Dayton Aviation Heritage Visitor Center about two miles from Huffman Prairie. The museum is free and very informative. They have a twenty minute film on the Wright Brothers that is worth the time. Permission has been granted for this virtual by the rangers at the visitor center.
