Geocache Description:

This Virtual Cache will give you a pleasant walking tour of where George Washington crossed the Delaware River on his way to the Battle of Trenton on Christmas of 1776. It's at the embarkation area of Pennsylvania's Washington Crossing Historic Park. There are many things to do at this park such as take a guided tour, peruse the Visitor Center with it's museum, gift shop and presentations and visit the other nearby park locations such as Bowman's Tower, the Wildflower Preserve, etc. There is even a reenactment of the crossing every year on Christmas Day, often attended by thousands!

You can find more details at the park website here.

The locations for the questions are in approximate 'walking order' so if you start at the coordinates of Question 1, you will be able to get them all by without having to double back, etc. Daylight hours only for this cache.

Requirements:

A) On your cache log, find a park location you like and POST A PICTURE OR PICTURES of your GPS, or you, or your party (No spoilers, please).

B) Email or message the CO with the answers to all of the following nine questions. Please don’t post any answers on your log, obviously.

Questions:

1) Start at N 40° 17.670 W 074° 52.225. There you will find a covered display with a map of the battle of Trenton and pictures of various items of the era. What organization did the person responsible for this map project belong to?

2) Next to the display in Question 1 is a bench where you can sit and rest your weary legs (N 40° 17.691 W 074° 52.244). There is a plaque on the bench where some people are given “Special Thanks”. List the first letter of each name that was given “Special Thanks” in alphabetical order.

3) Walk southward to the McConkey Ferry Inn (Around N 40° 17.662 W 074° 52.199), The Inn has an unusually shaped spring house next to it. How many sides does the spring house have? Count carefully.

4) Next, locate the Durham Boat Barn. How many individual doors does this building have? (count doubles as two separate doors and don't forget to look UP!)

5) You will find a stairway leading down to the river bank at around N 40° 17.743 W 074° 52.271. How many pickets are on the top section of black metal railing that is perpendicular to (pointing away from) the Delaware River? Don’t count the posts.

6) Walking back to the Visitor’s Center, you will find a stone monument on the river side of the building. On one side it says, “NEAR THIS SPOT WASHINGTON CROSSED THE DELAWARE ON CHRISTMAS NIGHT 1776. THE EVE OF THE BATTLE OF TRENTON. ERECTED 1895. BUCKS CO. HIST. SOC.” What does the opposite side of the monument say? (exclude any graffiti)

7) Find the stone block on the Visitor Center that shows the date that it was erected. What is that date?

8) In front of the Visitor Center entrance, there is a large monument to commemorate Washington’s crossing. One side has a plaque with the date of 1916. On the opposite side is an engraving showing the crossing. On the engraving, how many men are in the boat in the foreground? (Again, count carefully)

9) North of the Visitor Center, there is walkway with flagpoles and flags. How many flags are NOT individual state flags? Don't forget to include the big one at the end. (Even if the flags are not flying, this can be determined)

Daylight hours only for this cache. Good luck and have fun!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO FORBEZ, DOMERDOC AND TEAM DADDIEMARK FOR CO-FTF's!!!
