Geocache Description:

The Army Heritage Trail is part of the US Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC).* The Trail is open from dawn to dusk seven days a week. The Memorial Garden is a quiet spot for reflection along the way. (THERE IS A LINK TO THE TRAIL MAP ELSEWHERE ON THIS PAGE.) At the center of the Memorial Garden is a cupola. Nearby are three memorials commemorating units that fought in World War II.

Enroute to the Memorial Garden, the Trail leads along a flat, graveled path through exhibits focused on the history of the US Soldier. (The terrain rating is based on the one mile length.) Among the presentations are a display from the Global War on Terror, World War I trenches, a German pillbox (bunker), a French and Indian War waystation, Civil War Cabins, and barracks, a mess hall, and a chapel typical of those found at World War II Army induction centers. Veterans of the Korean and Vietnam Wars will recognize displays and weaponry unique to the history they experienced.

BEFORE LOGGING, answer the following questions in an email or message:

1. Near the perimeter walkway, at the east entrance to the WWI trench, there is a bench. To whom is it dedicated?

2. As you face the door, what items have been erected just to the left of the south entrance to the WWII mess hall?

3. In your log, please include a photo of either the cupola at GZ or one of the three memorials, along with either your device or another item unique to you. (Photos of people okay; no faces required.)

*USAHEC also includes a Visitor and Education Center with set hours. Visit www.usahec.org for information on the galleries, special exhibits, and extensive military history research facilities available to the public.
