Ste. Genevieve is just an hour drive South of St. Louis. It's a charming, small town with an amazing amount of history. Come for a day or for the weekend. There's plenty to see do. The building you see across the street & in the photo is The Green Tree Tavern. It was built in 1790 is one of the oldest and largest vertical log buildings. In the summer of 2018 it will once again be open for tours. Constructed in the French style called 'poteau sur sole'(posts on a sill or foundation). Green Tree Tavern was built by Nicolas Janis, a French Canadian who emigrated to Ste. Genevieve from Quebec. He married into a prominent French colonial family from the area & built a thriving business as an innkeeper. It has served as an Inn & Tavern through the years.
