Virtual al castello di San Vigilio

Buon giorno a tutti qui in città alta, o a Bergamo di sopra, ma sarebbe meglio dire "Berghem de sura" come prevede il dialetto locale.

Come probabilmente già sapete, Bergamo è conosciuta come la città divisa in due parti, Bergamo di sopra che è la parte antica cresciuta sulla collina e la Bergamo di sotto (in dialetto Berghem de sota),che è la parte più moderna sviluppatasi nella pianura sottostante.
Bene, con questa cache virtual, vi voglio portare a fare una passeggiata ancora più in alto della parte turistica della città alta, fino a raggiungere i 496m del castello di San Vigilio da cui si gode il panorama su Bergamo alta e bassa.

Attenzione: il castello è all’interno del parco che rimane aperto dalle 09:00 alle 17:00 in inverno, mentre in estate gli orari sono 8:00 fino alle 21:00

Un breve cenno storico del castello di San Vigilio obiettivo finale della nostra cache: fino al IX secolo sul colle di San Vigilio, era insediata una piccola comunità ecclesiastica che costruì una piccola chiesa dedicata a santa Maria Maddalena. Nel periodo carolingio (774) il conte Auteramo fece costruire un castello con funzione strategico militare sfruttando la posizione elevata del posto allo scopo di controllare il territorio circostante. Il castello venne poi ingrandito e rinforzato in varie fasi, nel 1166 dal Consiglio Comunale, nel 1335 dalla famiglia Visconti, ma l’aspetto attuale risale ai lavori eseguiti durante la dominazione della Repubblica di Venezia ( all’inizio del percorso, osservate sulla posta Sant. Alessandro il leone simbolo di Venezia) che, nel XV secolo assieme alla realizzazione delle mura intorno a città alta, aggiunse, al castello di San Vigilio i quattro torrioni, i muraglioni che li uniscono e il fossato.
Saliremo in uno di questi torrioni per raggiungere la meta.

Qui di seguito una serie di fotografie che saranno la vostra guida durante la passeggiata che può essere effettuata tutta a piedi camminando per una ventina di minuti risalendo via San Vigilio con 60 m di dislivello in salita (fino alla stazione di arrivo della funicolare), oppure utilizzando quest’ultima assaporando l’atmosfera dei mezzi di trasporto di fine 1800 al prezzo attuale del biglietto di euro 1,30 acquistabile alla stazione di partenza utilizzando moneta oppure comprandolo alla edicola in Colle Aperto.

Affinché il vostro log sia valido, una volta giunti sulla cima, andate alle coordinate della cache, presso la tavoletta rotonda che indica a 360° tutte le cime circostanti, fate una fotografia includendo la tavoletta, voi o il vostro GPS e allegatela al log.

Good morning everyone here in the upper town, or Bergamo above, but it would be better to say "Berghem de sura" as the local dialect provides.

As you probably already know, Bergamo is known as the city divided into two parts, the Bergamo above which is the ancient part grown on the hill and the Bergamo below (Berghem de sota)which is the most modern part developed in the plain below.
Well, with this virtual cache, I’d like to take you for a walk even higher as elevation than the most tourist part of the old-upper city, to reach the 496m over the sea level, of the castle of San Vigilio, where you will enjoy the Bergamo view.

Please make attention: the castle is inside a park that is open from 9am to 5pm during winter, while during summer is open from 8am to 9pm.

A brief historical mention of the castle of San Vigilio which is the final goal of our cache: up to the ninth century on the hill of San Vigilio, a small ecclesiastical community was established and a small church dedicated to Santa Maria Maddalena was built. During the Carolingian period (774), Count Auteramo built here a castle with a military strategic function, using the high elevation of the position for the control of the surrounding territory. The castle was then enlarged and reinforced in various stages, in 1166 by the City Council, in 1335 by the Visconti family, but its current look dates back to the work carried out during the domination of the Venetian Republic (at the beginning of the itinerary, observe the symbolic lion of Venice on the door Sant Alessandro) that, in the fifteenth century at the same time of the construction of the walls around the upper city, added to the castle of San Vigilio the four towers, the walls that unite them and the moat.
We will go up trough one of these towers to reach the cache.

Here below is a series of pictures that will be your guide to reach the cache. You can go up walking for about twenty minutes following via(street) San Vigilio with a 60-meter uphill as a difference of elevation(until the cable railway arrival station), or decide to use the cable railway, enjoying the atmosphere of the transports used at the end of the 1800. The current price of the ticket is € 1.30 that can be bought at the departure station using coins or at the newspaper shop in Colle Aperto.

To get a valid log, once you reached the top, go to the cache coordinates, at the round tablet that shows all the surrounding peaks at 360 °, take a picture including the tablet, you or your GPS and attach it to the log.
