Puzzle School Lesson #3
Braille Alphabet Cipher
Louis Braille first presented Braille in 1829. Braille encryption uses this specific alphabet for the visually impaired, composed of dots. Each letter corresponds to a combination of 6 points. The dots are read in column and are numbered 1-2-3 for the first column and 4-5-6 for the second. Braille decryption requires only a substitution with a Braille alphabet symbol (6 dots).
To decode a message written in Braille, substitute each braille set of dots for a letter, number or punctuation.
Try it Now!
Take each set of 2 columns and find the corresponding set from the braille alphabet (links to online versions of the alphabet below).
Tip: In addition to the cipher text, some puzzles throw in things like extra characters, intentional misspellings or spelling out numbers to make it harder to guess without doing the work for the puzzle. Can you see how we are doing this here?
Tip: Having trouble? Look around the cache page for other helpful information. It is common in puzzles to provide additional clues within the cache or to incorporate elements such as the Image gallery (hint, hint). You may find something here that is useful in solving.
