Virtual Reward - 2017/2018
This Virtual Cache is part of a limited release of Virtuals created between August 24, 2017 and August 24, 2018. Only 4,000 cache owners were given the opportunity to hide a Virtual Cache. Learn more about Virtual Rewards on the Geocaching Blog.
I'm placing this Virtual Cache in honor of our first "Nomad Vacation" with our family. This was the first hike we took on this trip and I was amazed that such a wonderful place didn't already have a cache!
The cache coordinates will bring you to a swimming hole near Stony Kills falls in the Minnewaska State Park Preserve. On your way you can enjoy the views as you trek to the top of Stony Kills Falls. The watering hole has beautiful clean (and cold!) water to take a dip in after your hike. You can even wade to other parts of the creek from there, but the best part of this swimming hole is the mini-waterfall.
Not only can you stand up right in the mini-waterfall at the watering hole, but there's also a small nook behind it where 2 people can fit (and if you're feeling romantic you can steal a kiss back there - we did!). We hope you enjoy this secret little spot!
Websites about Stony Falls say that the water can slow to a trickle in the hottest months so you should try to go when the water is high. We visited mid-August and it was just fine, but we did visit after a rainy day.
Be aware: The path to the watering hole is closed during winter due to the icy condition of the rock steps leading up to it. Do not attempt this virtual cache during trail closure.
To Log This Virutal Cache
To log this Virtual cache take a picture of yourself (face shot not required) at the watering hole. Note: The picture cannot be in front of Stony Kills Falls - you actually need to scale up to the top and visit the watering hole! It'd be really great to see a picture of you doing something fun or wacky in (or in front of) the swimming hole too! Logs not meeting this requirement will be deleted.
