Geocache Description:

Concordia 2000

Deutsch - - - DEUTSCH

Il batacchio pesa 500 chilogrammi e suona in „do diesis“.

Concordia 2000 The crown of Kronplatz: This is the mighty peace bell "Concordia 2000", located at the top of the ski area, directly located above the 11 meter wide panoramic vantage platform. Maybe a somewhat unusual place for a bell, but for a truly wonderful place.
The bell was installed in the summer of 2003 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the ski resort Kronplatz under collaboration of the municipalities Bruneck, Olang and Enneberg at the top of a viewing platform. It is also intended to commemorate the exploration pioneers of Plan de Corones and is dedicated to St. Bernard, the patron saint of mountain and skiing sports. Founders of the bell were the four lift companies of the ski area Kronplatzseilbahn, Olanger cable cars, cable cars St. Vigil and Skiarea Miara.
The bell is one of the largest in the Alps. It weighs 18.1 tons and measures 3 meters in diameter and 3.11 meters in height. A 500 kilogram heavy forged bell clapper can be heard in the striking tone Cis0. It is powered by two electrically operated choppers with electronic control. The outer artistic design was defeated by the Gardena artist Paul dë Doss-Moroder.
The bell was cast in 2002 by the bell foundry Oberascher in Salzburg, where the casting succeeded in the third attempt. Before being transported to South Tyrol, the bell was exhibited at Kapitelplatz near Salzburg Cathedral.
Located on Enneberg municipal area observation platform with circular foundation has a diameter of 11 meters and is provided with a panoramic relief of bronze. The electrically heated relief with a total length of 35.28 meters and a weight of about 2580 kilograms shows the surrounding mountains with names and heights as well as the directions of some major European cities. Above the platform stands the steel bell tower, which carries the bell with its mechanism. The overall height of the tapered bell tower is 21.8 meters.
The Concordia 2000 is designed as a peace bell. Their Latin inscription "Donet deus populis pacem" means in English "God give peoples peace". In addition to the daily ringing at 12:00 clock, the bell rings even if in a state, the death penalty suspended or a convicted person was pardoned and at the end of a war.

To log this virtual cache, write your GC name on a piece of paper and take a picture of it, of course with the bell "Concordia 2000" in the background. Add this photo to your subsequent log entry!
