Geocache Description:

Come hike the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge Marsh Trail

The refuge was established in 1996 and encompasses 35,000 acres. Two thirds of the refuge is mangrove forest; part of the world's largest remaining intact mangrove ecosystem!

The refuge serves many habitat protection and species conservation purposes. It is home to many different species of birds, fish, reptiles and mammals. It is also a nursery for marine fish and stop-over for migrating birds.

Enjoy the short walk to the observation tower, a wonderful spot to view wildlife.

To log this Virtual please email cache owner the answers to the following questions:

1. The refuge is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as part of the National Wildlife Refuge System. Name two management activities performed on this refuge.

2. Vegetation communities within the refuge occur in zones based on what factors? Name two.

While at the observation tower please note the elevation of the boardwalk and contrast with either the first level (easy access for wheelchairs) or the second level (stairs)
