Geocache Description:

Welcome to Town Center Park, Kingwood!

This park is a community friendly common area that is used throughout the year for various purposes. Everything from concerts to farmer's markets, 4th of July celebrations to Kleenwood events, have been held or hosted here.

As we all know, Kingwood has heavily impacted by the flooding caused by Harvey, including Town Center. The entire area was several feet under water, from the nearby San Jacinto River and Lake Houston.

Flooded Town Center

A little bit east of the coordinates is a rock with a plaque on it. These are the individuals, groups, and entities who participated non-stop before, during, and long after the flooding. The sign is dedicated to the volunteers of the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department, the Kingwood Area Emergency Medical Services Association, and the Kingwood Emergency Services departments. Although the plaque was dedicated in 1998, and not being directly related to any Harvey incidents, the thought and gratitude remains the same. It was still these departments, and the volunteers (though the individuals may have changed, the 'volunteers' have not!), that created a lasting impact on the community, both then, and now.

Now, despite the heavy damage load, not just to business, but to residences, families, and the community as a whole, Kingwood has done a fantastic job as recovering. Most, if not all, businesses have reopened, and are back contributing to their community! Take a look around you when in this park. Do you see any evidence of the major flooding that devastated the area? For the most part, nothing looks out of place. Kingwood did not let a little water destroy us- we simply recovered, rebuilt, and are moving forward in bettering our community!

Instructions to claim this as a find:

You must physically visit the location! No armchair geocaching!

As proof of your visit, you must do two things!

1. Take a photo of yourself, your GPS, or a piece of paper with your username on it, which obviously shows you are in the right location. Post with your log.

2. Take a look at the bricks along the sides of the walkways. They are covered with names of emergency personnel and staff from the time period listed on the plaque in the various departments. Take one of these names, and mention it in your log! Thank them, shout out, anything that helps acknowledge their, or their department's, service to the Kingwood area, anytime, or during Harvey. There are hundreds of names throughout Town Center Park- see if you can find a unique one not yet mentioned in a log!
