A Good Name Is Worth More Than Great Riches.
This geocache is in honor of my father, Thomas Silver or best known as Tom. The geocaching community may know him as N9RPH.
He was the person who originally got me interested in Geocaching and he LOVED finding new and unique geocaches. It all started when I was home from college for the summer and we were both bored on a rainy day. He looked over at me and asked if I had ever heard of Geocaching. Of course I hadn't so I asked him more about it. One thing led to another and we were grabbing our jackets and out the door with a GPS he had bought earlier that week. Neither of us had tried Geocaching at that point, but the idea seemed pretty amusing. It turned out that the very first geocache we attempted to find was one placed by USAF....if you ever had any experience finding his caches, they were pretty difficult but awesome once you finally found them. So we looked and looked and looked and looked some more. Neither of us knew what we were looking for. Finally, my dad pulled something off of the back-side of a rafter in the shelter we were looking in (it was a buffalo tube wrapped in velcro). He opened it up and we pulled out the log book. We signed our names under the shelter with the pouring rain that could be heard a few feet away outside. We both knew that we would be looking for a second one and that we were HOOKED!
I had been trying to find some way to add a new geocache around my dad's place in the cemetery, but I never could come up with anything....and then the new Virtuals were added! Good thing too because I had started to seriously consider trying to hollow out an inconspicuous spot on his stone.
He was an extremely great man - father, husband, grandpa, Eagle Scout, Geocacher, Amateur (HAM) Radio operator, pharmacist, among many other things - who enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with those he loved. He loved life and had fun in everything that he did. He somehow always managed to have the best time doing anything...even the most menial of tasks. I think he just always chose to have FUN! Someone that will go down as a legend. At least in my book. Please enjoy and happy caching.
Cache logging: Please scan the QR code on the tag found at the site. It will take you to a doc to virtual log book to sign. If logs on the geocaching site do not have a coinciding log on the virtual log book the find will be quietly deleted.
