Geocache Description:

The Malcolm McDonald House was built in 1910. It was the residence of McDonald and his wife for many years. The exterior of this Craftsman Style home has deep open eaves with curved brackets and purlins, a broad entry porch and interesting brickwork on the twin chimneys and lower portion of the house. The 8412 square foot home had many features unusual for the time----indoor plumbing, push-button electrical switches, a calling system for servants and a phone closet. The house sat on 1200 acres of land planted to apple trees. In spring, this would have been a glorious sight, with trees in full bloom, being pollinated by thousands of orchard bees. Near the house is a fascinating metal sculpture that is quite appropriate to the site and its history. Step inside, take a seat and read the plaque carefully. You will learn the origin of the name Orenco as well as the title of the sculpture and its artist. To be able to log this cache, please email or message me with the title of the sculpture and the name of the artist.
