Requirements
Since the crossing is no longer free for foot traffic we will now also accept photos of Jenny Ann in the middle of the river taken from either shore. However, we do still recommend crossing if able.
In order to log this cache successfully it is required that the finder take a picture while crossing the Ohio river on the Augusta Ferry (see above) and include picture in log posting. This picture must include a recognizable part of the ferry boat and the river in order to be accepted. If you wish you can also include yourself in the picture.
Parking & Usage of Ferry
Crossing the ferry on foot is free. If you intend to cross on foot simply park in the ferry parking area on the side of the river you are crossing from and walk down to the ferry loading ramp to get on. The two parking areas are included as waypoints. If you intend to cross with your car it will cost $5 ($2 for motorcycles) so be aware of this.
Hours of Operation
Ferry operates from 8am to 8pm daily. Closed on Christmas Day. Last trip from Kentucky leaves at 7:35pm.
History & Background
The Augusta Ferry is one of three passenger ferry services that cross the Ohio River into the U.S. state of Kentucky. It is operated by the Augusta Ferry Authority, and been in continuous operation since 1797 when the ferry was hand-propelled by John Boude. It connects the communities of Higginsport, Ohio and Augusta, Kentucky, and is the only public river crossing available between the Combs-Hehl Bridge at Cincinnati, Ohio and the William H. Harsha Bridge at Maysville, Kentucky (Wikipedia Reference).
