Geocache Description:

I see Spirits and Spirit, they are everywhere... especially at Lookout Point and Terrace!!!!

Welcome to Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum. This spectacular jewel is the final resting place for most of Dayton's founders, famous industrialists, celebrities, politicians, writers, a medal of honor recipient, the Wright Brothers, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, and more, much more. Each "spirit" referenced represents a "spirit" that helped earn Dayton the title of "Gem City". Furthermore, did you know that Woodland Cemetery is home to the highest elevation point in the Dayton area? In fact, this strategic elevation served as a lookout station during wartime long ago.

Above is beautiful Lookout Terrace at Woodland Cemetery

Not long ago, Woodland trustees realized the significance of having such a beautiful vista at this area's highest elevation and made a major investment to develop it. Visitors to this location will now find a gorgeous gazebo, unbelievably well done walkways, walls constructed with boulders taken from Woodland graves from over the last 170 years, and perfectly planted vegetation that was native to the time when this cemetery was new. Oh, and the view of the Dayton skyline is second to none. I could go on and on, but why not come and see the beauty and wonder for yourself?

If you want to claim “found” on the first virtual to publish in the state of Ohio since 2005, you will need to privately email me the answers to the following questions:

How many companies are referenced on the dedication plaque at “Lookout Point”?

How many trustees are listed on the dedication plaque?

What does the circular medallion mounted to the dedication plaque reference?

Finally, when you post your "found it" log, you will also need to upload a picture of yourself (to your log) up on the gazebo’s (tower) main platform area. It is okay to not directly show your face in the image per Geocaching rules concerning respect of privacy for cachers' that wish to remain facially anonymous.

PLEASE note that your log will be deleted if you post the answers to the qualification questions for logging this cache, which includes logging the cache as a found without emailing the answers to me and not posting your picture, as required. I am not trying to be difficult, it is just the fair thing to do.

Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum is open to the public; however, you can only visit during business hours, which are 8AM until 7PM, Monday through Sunday.
