The answer is found on the base of the metal statue (about 4 feet high from the sidewalk) just below the barrel of the bat and Willie's right foot. Willie Mays wore #24 on his jersey throughout his Hall of Fame career. He played in 24 All Star Games, the Giants stadium address is 24 Willie Mays Plaza, 24 palm trees surround his statue, and San Francisco has proclaimed every May 24 as Willie Mays Day.
