Rough Tor (ahermm, ...rhymes with cow!)
Rough Tor is Cornwall's second highest peak, beaten into second place by nearby Brown Willy by only 20m. However, what it lacks in height it more than makes up for in character, offering history, geology and memorable views.
The summit of Rough Tor is about a mile from the car park, and makes an enjoyable walk to explore the surroundings. From the car park you can see Showery Tor to your left, with its natural stone stack reminiscent of The Cheesewring, with Rough Tor summit on the right of the ridge. The enclosures surrounding the stack date back to prehistoric times, and there are numerous hut circles to discover. Passing Little Rough Tor, the rocky summit of Rough Tor can be explored, and this virtual cache can be discovered.
The virtual cache location is at the memorial to the fallen of the 43rd (Wessex) Divison, who served in the D-Day invasion and whose members comprised the 5th Battalion of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry (DCLI).
In order to log this cache, make your way to the memorial and undertake the following:
1.) Please count the number of toes the Wyvern has.
2.) Standing in front of the memorial, walk about ten paces to your left and look down. How many bolts can you see?
