Geocache Description:

Location is one of two buildings in Hancock County that were originally built & once used for decades as Elementary Schools that have some unique Brick Artwork embedded in their exterior walls. Now this building serves as a Historical site & houses a public museum.

When you approach, look closely and scan the exterior building brickwork & find the answers to the questions listed below. Some of the Artwork is still embedded with chalk from students years ago. Dozens of various pieces of Art are randomly scattered at heights of 3 to 8 feet across three walls for over 200 linear feet. Ground Zero is about the middle. All 'required' artwork appears at least twice & are out in the open for easy viewing.

CORRECT ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS MUST BE MESSAGED OR EMAILED TO THE CACHE OWNER

(as listed & linked above)

OR Logs MUST Be DELETED.

*** PLEASE DO NOT POST PHOTOS OF BRICKWORK ART THAT GIVE AWAY ANY ANSWERS ***

Please understand that logs containing answers need to be deleted.

!!! DAWN TO DUSK ONLY PLEASE !!!

The City of New Cumberland, WV & the immediate surrounding area up & down the Ohio River have a rich history of brick making. The local clay is ideal for such manufacturing. In fact, the area's fireclay is known to be some of the finest in the world! Through the 1800's & into the 1900's, dozens of brickworks here exported millions of bricks each year via the river on flatboats. The brick artwork at this cache is an artistic memorial remnant of that thriving industry.

The Brick Artwork shows Ancient, National & local History. Industry, Agriculture, zodiac, hieroglyphics, animals, local Native American iconography & more. It can be a lot of fun discovering and interpreting the icons. I'm still stumped on quite a few of them. Enjoy the hunt!
