Geocache Description:

Over 30 million passengers pass through Logan Airport every year, but few are aware of the existence of this memorial. I've created this Virtual Cache to encourage more geocachers to visit the memorial as they pass through the airport.

The Memorial

On September 11, 2001, two planes left Logan Airport bound for Los Angeles, but were hijacked by terrorists who flew them into the World Trade Center towers in New York. The Logan Airport 9/11 Memorial honors the passengers and crews of these two planes.

Landscaped paths lead through ginkgo trees to a large glass cube, The Place of Remembrance. Inside are panels etched with the names of every person aboard each flight.

The memorial has been open to all 24/7 since its dedication on September 9, 2008.

You can read more about the memorial at the Logan Airport website.

One of the Most Popular Caches in Massachusetts!

4/18/2025: Thank you for 270 💙 favorite points out of 893 😃 found it logs! This is now the 16th most popular cache in Massachusetts by favorite points.

Logging Requirements

Find these three pieces of information:
  1. Two of the passengers listed on one of the panels have a logo next to their name, indicating that they were airline employees. One of these two has a nickname in “quotation marks”; that nickname is XX.
  2. The entrance to the memorial, across from the hotel, is a stone circle. Visible from the crosswalk are two brass plaques. The smaller plaque (on the right side) has only five words on it; the fourth word is WWWW.
  3. There is a glass door to a stairway at the southwestern corner of the garage. You don't need to go to the door – it's easily seen from the memorial path. A sign next to the door indicates that this is Stair SSS (a three digit number).

The quickest way to verify your answers is to send an email with your caching name in either the subject or the body of the message to XX.WWWW.SSS@gmail.com (filling in the values of XX, WWWW, and SSS which you collected above). If you have the right answers, you should get an email right away giving you permission to log the cache. If you're caching in a group, feel free to include multiple caching names in a single message.

Alternatively, if you'd like your email address to remain private, feel free to send your answers to me through the Geocaching.com message center, but it might take a day or two for me to reply.

If you send the email and don't get an automatic response, it's possible Gmail has decided that your message is spam; in that case please send me the answers through the message center.

Any logs for which an email or message hasn't been received run the risk of being deleted.

Feel free to include pictures in your log, but please don't leave any spoilers which could give away the answers to the logging requirements!
