The Aldabra giant tortoise is one of the largest tortoises in the world. The main population of the Aldabra giant tortoise resides on the islands of the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles. The atoll has been protected from human influence and is home to some 100,000 giant tortoises !
The Aldabra giant tortoises are herbivorous animals, spending much of their time browsing for food in their surrounding well-vegetated environment. They are most active in the mornings, when they spend time browsing for food. They dig underground burrows or rest in swamps to keep cool during the heat of the day.
They are among the longest-lived animals on the planet. Some individual Aldabra giant tortoises are thought to be over 200 years of age !
In Curieuse Island you have the chance to approach them and to touch them gently like us :
Your mission is to take a photo of you with an Aldabra giant tortoise. The rules to validate this virtual cache are :
- You have to touch the tortoise
- You have to show your GPS or a paper with your pseudo
- You are not obliged to show your face of course. You can be turned away, or you can modify the photo to replace your face with a real or fictive tortoise head. The second option is more fun !
Careful : we will remove your log if you don’t respect the rules !

Les tortues géantes d’Aldabra sont parmi les plus grosses tortues du monde. La plus grande population de tortues géantes d’Aldabra se trouve dans les iles de l’archipel d’Aldabra aux Seychelles. Cet archipel est protégé de l’influence de l’homme et accueille plus de 100 000 tortues géantes !
Les tortues géantes d’Aldabra sont des animaux herbivores, passant la plus grande partie de leur temps à chercher de la nourriture. Les tortues sont surtout actives le matin, essayant sinon de se rafraîchir à l'ombre de quelques arbustes ou dans des flaques boueuses.
Elles sont parmi les animaux vivant le plus longtemps au monde puisque certaines de ces tortues auraient vécu plus de 200 ans !
Sur l’île Curieuse vous avez la chance de les approcher et de les toucher gentiment comme nous :
Votre mission est de prendre une photo de vous avec une tortue géante d’Aldabra. Les règles pour valider cette cache virtuelle sont :
- Vous devez toucher la tortue
- Vous devez montrer votre GPS ou un papier avec votre pseudo
- Vous n’êtes bien sûr pas obligé de montrer votre visage. Vous pouvez être de dos ou vous pouvez modifier la photo pour remplacer votre visage par une tête de tortue fictive ou réelle. La seconde option est beaucoup plus fun !
